getting ready for the Fall...

that's right. it's coming soon. the start of the new school year. i know people (especially kids) don't want to hear about it with 3 weeks left in their summer schedule, but it's true. a new year, with new possibilities, and new opportunities. our work with YoungLife will be getting a bit of a running start this fall too. we'll have had 7 kids to our camp, RockRidge Canyon, and we've got a great committee of parents and people in our community that are a great support to us.

i have to admit, i'm a little nervous, because i really want this mission to do well here in gp. we know there's a need for it, and we know that we've got a giant opportunity to serve students, God, and our city by coming alongside of kids and offering our friendship. but i also know that there are some things that will get in the way of what we want to accomplish. namely, egos. i'm praying that i don't become a detriment to the work that we're doing by becoming arrogant about it. we need to remember that the work is there because of the students. it's all about them. about what God can do in and through them.

i'm also eager to see what happens. we'd really like to see a club started up in october. i really hope that we have enough significant relationships built up with students that we can have one. especially now, after being at a full week of camp YoungLife-style, i'm excited for the possibilities. the camp is really not run all that differently from any other camp i've been to, it's just that they've been able to polish it that much more, and they've got the best of everything for kids to experience all rolled into one giant package.

so that's where we're at right now. not to mention that a whole new hockey season is about to get rolling, we're in the middle of a very exciting cfl season, and right around the corner is a new nfl season too. there's not a lot of downtime for a sports fan these days.

and to top it all off, i'm going to jump into a new series of books. i haven't seen the movies yet, and i'm hoping i can get through the books before i'm dragged out to watch the movies. i'm going to start the bourne identity as soon as it comes in to the library. hopefully it's not too long of a wait, i just put the request in today for the book. i had been reading the Lord of the Rings, but i own those and can finish them pretty much any time. not to mention, i really want to watch the bourne movies, so i'm just going to read the books, and go from there.

well, that should be more than enough rambling for today. i'll have more updates in a few days.
