the light that no one sees...

every few weeks i get invited to one of the local schools to share some words with students that are parts of Christian gatherings. today i'm speaking with the crew at a jr. high here in GP that call themselves s.w.a.t. (students with a tesitmony). this is what i'm bringing to them:

John 1:6-13 (NLT)
God sent John the Baptist to tell everyone about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was only a witness to the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was going to come into the world.

But although the world was made through him, the world didn't recognize him when he came. Even in his own land and among his own people, he was not accepted. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn! This is not a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan--this rebirth comes from God.

at the same time, this is passage that my church is focussing on in the coming days. i'm kind of excited to be honest. a few years ago i realized (because of this passage) that Jesus is the biggest secret that everyone can know. the world doesn't recognize him, but when they do things kind of fall into place. we ourselves are not the light, but we are witnesses to the light. the pressure isn't on me to be something i'm not. i just walk along and point it out, "there's Jesus, he takes away sin".

** a note to Fred - i couldn't comment directly on your blog because i decided to "upgrade" my blog to some new beta version, and it won't let me comment on "non-beta" blogs. hopefully this is fixed soon. anyways, i woke up to snow on the ground this morning. i even had to brush my car off before i left for my weekly prayer meeting. so just think, the cold, wet weather you're getting now is just a foreshadowing of things to come. mind you, calgary tends to be just a touch milder than GP. enjoy it while you can.
