the hunt is complete, i'm now...

a purveyor of all things coffee. for those interested and wondering what's going on, here's a quick update. my work with Young Life here in GP has gone amazingly well, however, we haven't had the funding that we've needed in order to operate fully the last couple of months. as a result, i've decided that now is the best time for me to step aside from my work with YL and get a "real" job for a while. i don't know how long it will be, but i know that God's not finished using me in the work of Youth Ministry here in GP, and i know that the next while is going to be one crazy ride.

today, i was offered a job with Starbucks. they're going to be opening a new store here in GP, and they've asked me to manage it for them. i initially applied as an assistant manager, thinking that because all i've done since i was 20 is Youth Ministry, that i didn't have the business savvy to manage as the guy in charge. they thought otherwise.

it turns out that they have a heavy philosophy of coaching and development of their staff, which is really what i've been doing for the last 8 years in Youth work - coaching and developing. there's a real desire within the corporate structure of Starbucks (from what i've observed through this process so far) to be a people company that serves coffee, and not a coffee company that serves people.

so, in the next couple of weeks, i'll be starting a new chapter in my life. i'll do what i can to update the blog along the way. oh, and the really cool part of this whole deal: if it all works out, my store will be walking distance from where we currently live.
